Why are there different types of peels?
There are different types of peels for the suitability of different skin types. Some of them are listed below.
Glycolic Peel Glycolic acid is commonly found in sugar cane in the form of Alpha-Hydroxy Acid or AHA. It contains molecules in minute forms which enables it to penetrate the skin better. Glycolic acid peels are useful in the treatment of sun damaged skin, pigmentation of skin and sagging skin that has lost its elasticity. Glycolic acid peels range from 20% to 70%.
Salicylic Peel Salicylic acid peel contains Beta-Hydroxy Acid or BHA which treats excessively oily skin and rejuvenates the skin. It cleanses clogged pores and comes in a concentration of 10% to 30%. It is also useful in the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis.
Tri Chloro Acetic Peel Trichloroacetic or TCA peels come in medium strength and predominantly improve discolouration of skin, reduce fine lines and provide a smooth texture of the skin. The strength of TCA peels range from 8% to 30%. They are considered deeper than glycolic acid peels and lactic acid peels.
Lactic Peel Lactic acid peels also, like glycolic acid peels contain AHA or alpha-hydroxy acid the difference being lactic acid peels are derived from milk. They are mild in form and do not require any downtime. Being a natural metabolite, it causes minimal reactions and allergies. It is considered good for mature skin, dry and oily skin types.
